Prologue

In 2023, India Seatrade has successfully organized two editions of its Multimodal Summit series – at Gandhidham in February and Visakhapatnam in May. With next edition planned at Bhubaneswar, India Seatrade would like to explore the multimodal scenario in the state; highlighting the opportunities and challenges and; having a meaningful debate and discussions on the various feasibilities of setting up multimodal infrastructure in Odisha state.

Multimodal Opportunities in The Land of Kalinga

Odisha has been blessed with a dynamic coastline and thanks to its mineral-rich landscape, it has a booming industrial presence in mining, minerals, steel, coal and other bulk and breakbulk products. Nevertheless, all the export-import requirements for these industries are met to a large extent by a single port, that is the Port of Paradip.

The industrial presence in Odisha has steadily increased the consumption and generation of containerized cargoes over the years. Once known only for bulk and break cargoes, the ratio of container cargoes vis-à-vis other cargoes has only increased. But, it is sad to note that the majority of these container cargoes are handled by the ports of the neighbouring states.

On the connectivity front, there is a huge opportunity waiting to be tapped. There is a great scope of creating new multimodal infrastructure in the state that provides seamless connectivity between various industries and seaports. Right policy measures can drive momentum in building a well-oiled network of road, rail, coastal and inland water transportation for seamless connectivity.

This Summit aims to bring together all the industrial and maritime stakeholders on to a single platform to have meaningful debates and discussions on the above-mentioned topics.
